Outdoor grant and stop sign talks take place at Brush City Council meeting

During the staff reports section at Monday’s Brush City Council meeting, Brush Chief of Police, Brandon Flecksteiner, gave an update about a stop sign request made at the Aug. 14 meeting.

At that meeting, Laura McConnell, the East Morgan County Library Director, spoke during citizen’s comment to request a stop sign be placed at the intersection of Everett Street and Cameron Street.

“Of all four corners of our library property, that’s the only corner that does not have a stop sign, and that’s where the playground [is]” McConnell said on Aug. 14. “It’s a toddler playground, so the youngest children play [there].”

At Monday’s meeting, Flecksteiner said he’s working with Public Works Director, Dale Colerick, on looking further into that request.

“We’re still assessing that,” Flecksteiner said. “We wanted to keep [city] council up to date that we’re still looking into it and finding out if that’s the best benefit.”

Lance Schwindt, Community Services Director, told the City Council that a grant is being written and will be sent to the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

“There’s some funds available for outdoor programming,” Schwindt said. [We’re] trying to get more kids–especially kids who are underprivileged–to experience the outdoors.”

From fishing to hunting, Schwindt said this funding from this grant can make available those experiences to kids in the community. He said Brian Porter, Publisher for The Fort Morgan Times, is one of the writers helping with the grant. Schwindt also said a meeting took place on Tuesday to discuss the submittal.

The next City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Council Chambers, 600 Edison St.
